Do you ever sing along to the radio in the car, but stop suddenly at a red light because you don’t want anyone to see? Well, at this rate, you might as well get used to looking like you’re talking to yourself. You may not be able to stop chatting with your smartphone thanks to inspired new technology features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
These two features are showing up more frequently in new cars. And it’s no wonder, as they each strive to bring you the same convenience as your smartphone, but in a safe and eyes-free, hands-free way. Your music, your text messages, your emails, maps and phone calls are all given front row center on your dashboard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Android Auto is very similar with a few competitive exceptions. Its programs are, of course, Android exclusive, using Google Maps and Google Now instead. Google Now is a proactive live-updating information app that will tell you anything from the weather to what restaurants you may be interested in based on your browsing habits. Unlike Apple CarPlay, Android Auto allows you to use one or all of many different messaging apps, so you’re not restrained when speaking with friends on the go.
